Lateritic Nickel Evaluation

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) plays an important role in evaluating lateritic nickel deposits.

Lateritic nickel forms in areas of deep weathering in tropical regions. Initially, GPR was thought to be of limited potential since these weathered areas can have high electrical conductivity. Surprisingly in situations where the watertable is deep, depths of 30 to 40 m of exploration have been achieved.
